Custom Record Type > List/Record Field Appears as Free-Form Text in an Online Form


SCENARIO

  • User creates an online form for a custom record type via Customization > Lists, Records, & Fields > Record Types > [select record type] > Online Forms tab
  • A few fields were added to the online form including a List/Record field
  • When the user previews the online form, the List/Record field does not appear as a drop-down. Instead, it appears like a regular Free-Form Text field.


RATIONALE


By default, a List/Record field appears as a drop-down field when used in an online form. However, if the field appears otherwise, here are the steps to resolve the problem:


1. Navigate to Customization > Lists, Records, & Fields > Record Types.


2. Select the custom record type used with the online form.


3. Under Online Forms tab, select and edit the online form in question. This opens a pop-up window called Online Custom Record Form.


4. Under Select Fields tab, locate the List/Record field in question. Make sure the Select checkbox corresponding to the field is checked.


5. Click Save.


6. To test, select the online form and click the External tab.


7. Click the Publishable Form URL and the field should now appear as a drop-down list.
