Change Default List Separator on Excel

When uploading the CSV file in the Import Assistant, NetSuite returns the following error:

The following file(s) could not be uploaded because of one or more errors. Please correct and re-upload.

    • Values in the following CSV file(s) are not comma separated, and cannot be imported. Please reformat the file(s) and try again.

When user opens the CSV file, the separator is semi-colon (;) instead of comma (,)


This problem is caused the by the default List Separator set on the user's computer. To resolve this, perform the following steps:

Windows XP:

1. Navigate to Start > Control Panel.

2. Click Regional and Language Settings.

3. Regional Options tab.

4. In the Standards and formats section, click Customize.

5. Click the Numbers tab.

6. In the List Separator, use comma (,) instead of semi-colon (;).


7. Click Apply.

8. Click OK.

9. Recreate the CSV file.

10. Reimport using the updated CSV file.


Windows Vista/ Windows 7:

1. Navigate to Start > Control Panel.

2. Click Clock, Language and Region.

3. Under Regional and Language Options, click Change the date, time or number format.

4. In the Formats tab, click Additional Settings.

5. In the Numbers tab, use comma in the List Separator field.

6. Click Apply.

7. Click OK.

8. Recreate the CSV file.

9. Reimport using the updated CSV file.
