Recurring Billing Subscription Error: Invalid custrecord_sb_sbitem_item reference key xx.. Please Correct the error and edit Subscription then hit Retry

The newly generated Subscription record shows below error under Error Info field.

Code: INVALID_KEY_OR_REF

Details: Invalid custrecord_sb_sbitem_item reference key xx.. Please Correct the error and edit Subscription then hit Retry. 

 

Solution:

The cause of the error is a non-supported item type setup on the Subscription Plan Item > Item field. 

The current version of the Recurring Billing module supports subscriptions only on Non-inventory Item for Sale and Service for Sale.  This is documented per SuiteAnswers Answer Id: 21903.

 

To successfully process Subscriptions, please perform these steps:

1. Remove the sales order from the Subscription record under Transactions tab > Transactions sub tab.

2. Delete the sales order.

3. Inactivate the Subscription, Subscription Plan Item and Subscription Plan records.

4. Create a new set of records making sure that a supported item type is selected on the Item dropdown field on the Subscription Plan Item record.
