How is Shipping Cost calculated if Total Item Weight of the Sales Order is more than the allowable maximum weight for the Shipping Item/Shipping Method?

If order is more than the allowable maximum weight, NetSuite still computes for the shipping cost but NetSuite divides the order into multiple packages.

For example, shipping via FedEx Ground or UPS Ground has a weight limit of 150 lbs per package. When you have a Sales Order with total item weight of 315 lbs, NetSuite will then divide the order into 3 packages and computes for shipping cost individually on each package.

First package = 150lbs
Second package = 150 lbs
Third package = 15 lbs

The shipping cost for each package are added and displayed as the final shipping cost for the whole order.
