A contact record is removed from an old customer record and then associated to the new customer record. When deleting the old customer record, user receives the following error: This record cannot be deleted because it has child records. When viewing the child record link, it opens the contact record that has been disassociated to the old customer record.
This issue occurs if the customer was created through an Online Customer Form.
To check the record, follow the steps below:
1. Navigate to Lists > Relationships > Customers (Contacts).
2. View the Customer (Contact).
3. Click the System Information tab > System Notes subtab.
4. Locate the Record field.
If you will look into the System Notes of the Customer record and Contact record, the following shows up:
- The Customer record was created by the System
- The Contact record was created by the Customer
This is reason why the user cannot delete the customer record. The contact record is still considered as the child record of the Customer record even if it was already disassociated to the record since it is the customer who created the contact record.
