The limit of the number of values that would show up from the field dropdown when doing inline editing is affected by the preference under Home > Set Preferences > Maximum entries in dropdowns. For example, if there are about 200 or so values that is expected from the field dropdown that will be edited through inline editing, the value for the Maximum entries in dropdowns should be greater than this. Set to 300 for example. If the preference is set to a value less than the # of expected values of a field, the drop down menu of the field when viewed from the record will now show all values unless the << icon is clicked.
With inline editing, the values won't show up from a dropdown or >> button but typing in the first few characters + tab will show a pop-up with the selection of the matches. User may be able to select the value from the pop-up
