Resolve "Session Timed Out" Issue when Opening Links in a New Tab/Window

Image

This is a list of systematic steps to try when resolving a User Interface issue where a user keeps getting a Session Timed Out window when opening a link/record in a new tab/window while using Internet Explorer only.

1. From the Toolbar, click Tools > Internet Options, General tab, under Browsing History click the Delete button.

2. On the Delete Browsing History Window, make sure Preserve Favorite Browsing website data box is unchecked.

3. Check the following boxes: Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Form Data, InPrivate Filtering Data. Then click Delete.

4. If the problem persists, launch Internet Explorer without Add-ons (Start > Run, type iexplore -extoff)

5. If this resolves the issue, locate the plugin creating the problem by opening Internet Explorer with Add-ons, navigate to Tools > Internet Options > Programs, Manage Add-ons, disable all plug-ins.

6. Enable each plugin - one by one- to isolate the root Add-on causing the issue.

7. If the problem persists, reset the Internet Explorer settings by navigating to Tools > Internet Options, Advanced tab, click the Reset button.

8. Make sure all instances of Internet Explorer are closed, before you can reset your Internet Explorer settings.

9. You may access the Task Manager Screen (via Hotkey Ctrl + Shift + Esc) > Processes tab and make sure there are no instances of iexplore.exe

10. Relaunch Internet Explorer after resetting the settings.
